Let’s talk about colour

We all know the power colour can have on the feel of a room - and even our mood. But we also don’t want to have to repaint the whole room every time we feel like a change. Thankfully, there are some easy, flexible ways to get around this.

To inject a new aesthetic without repainting, consider changing scatter cushions, rugs, or lampshades in your home. Another trick is to move artwork into a new room or onto another wall. This simple switch can make a big difference in making the room feel fresh and new.

“Why do two colours, put one next to the other, sing?”

Pablo Picasso

Whether you are open to repainting at least some of your interior, or looking to work with what you already have, there are two immediate ideas for colour palettes that pop into my mind.

The first is to err towards that a fresh feeling, considering softer hues like yellows or greens, or the use of blue as a wall colour - like Farrow & Ball’s Pea Flower Tea - to provide a fresh, calming influence.

The second is to opt for an overall lighter ‘interior canvas’. By that I mean sofas, furniture and carpets with more muted colours that can be juxtaposed with stronger accents, which serve the same purpose as you find in a flush of flowers.

For example, you could introduce some stronger coloured scatter cushions (Linwood Fabric have a wonderful collection to choose from) or a add throw to a sofa. Or why not change your lampshades to a pop of a brighter blue, like that of the morning glory flower?

Above all else, don’t be afraid to try something new. If you’re struggling for inspiration or unsure about which colours to match, you can always get in touch for some expert assistance.
