Styling with a pair of chairs

There is something timeless and elegant about decorating with a pair of chairs.

Placed symmetrically in a sitting room either side a fireplace, flanking a console in a hallway or positioned opposite a sofa a matching duo brings balance, structure and a designer touch to your room.

Here’s my short, simple guide to spark some inspiration for you:

The overall style of the chairs should compliment the room. Sleek modern chairs will suit a minimalist space while more ornate or traditional work beautifully in classic or eclectic interiors.

Fora finishing touch consider placing a small side table between the chairs, adding a lamp, stack of books or vase of fresh flowers to create a warm and styled feel.

Remember that a pair of chairs does not even have to be identical. Subtle variations in fabric colour-such as using different shades of the same hue can add depth and interest with disrupting the decorating scheme.

However, if the fabric is identical, consider adding contrast and personality by styling each chair with a different cushion. Pops of colour or contrasting textures can tie together other decorating elements.

When styling with two chairs is done well, it offers so much more than simply extra seating. It enhances the feel of your room entirely, making it feel both functional and beautifully finished.
